THE SURFERS® DRAGSTER IS COMPLETE!

DCSurf1

After 6 years years, THE SURFERS® Top Fuel dragster recreation was finished by Andy & Ron Marocco of DRAG CITY.  With many ups and downs, many detractors thought we would never finish it, but we did. Lots of hard work, money, time, and extreme detail has gone in to the project. The late Pat Foster's was hired to built the RCS chassis and to fabricate the steering components and did an excellent job. However, when Tom Jobe decided to bail out on building the engine and front wheels, we had to find others to help us finish them to the correct standards. Most of the real time consuming and hard work came from Amos Saterlee who not only built the awesome 392 Hemi, but fabricated many of the engine components as well as really paying attention to all the outer engine details. We should also mention that he also installed all the Driveline and clutch components too. Thanks to Engle for regrinding us a cam that sound just like the original. Thanks to Dave Tuttle for the finding us Jon Hansen to build the correct front 18" style wheels. And a special Thanks to all the fans who have continually supported our efforts to bring this car to fruition (i.e. T-Shirts, Poster, Lithographs,& Hats).

We really couldn't have done it without you guys.

DRAG CITY PROJECT UPDATE: 2009

If you're wanting to know what is going on with DRAG CITY (the drag strip) being built we can sum it up by saying that IT WILL NOT BE BUILT IN BANNING!  After a 7 year period of hard work, the Banning RDA voted to kill the project in October 2007.

As an attempt to give us "due process" the city also held a public hearing this past January where the Planning Commission voted to revoke our Unclassified Use Permit. We then appealed to the Banning City Council on March 11, 2008 and were denied our request to keep our entitlements intact. Thus putting the final nail in the coffin for the project to be built in Banning.

On April 16, 2008, we filled a lawsuit against the City of Banning. (For more details read the Lawsuit here )

What's next?  We don't know.  DRAG CITY (the drag strip) we believe will be a reality one day. However, whether or not it happens in Southern California or elsewhere is still to be decided.

Please continue to visit our website for the latest updates on our continued attempt to build our dream.

IN AUGUST 2009, Drag City's CASH investors (The Banning drag strip project) agreed to an undisclosed settlement and dropped it's lawsuit against  Tom Searles, All American Racing,LLC and the Marocco's. In other words, paid back. Case Closed!

Thank you for your support and hope. -- DRAG CITY
