Chess Coordination:

Purpose is to be the focal point for organizing chess activities.

Faclitities : 

The  session and times will be determin once all members have submitted application forms by deadline and paid all fees (Time slot will be TBA)

Chess Sets:

Don't let  the lack of equipment prevent you from starting!  you can purchase a set for $45.00 each !

We have club sets for you to use at each learning session and you will  also be playing on  APPLE ,LG and SAMUNG  Ipads to introduce

Scheduling:

We  will pick a time that does not conflict with similar activities. Length of time may vary when playing in time control tournaments but experience in past session has shown that 1.1/2 hour is about the max for all session each week.

Recreational Play:

We will alway emphasize the purpose of the chess program is to play chess and have fun NO other activities will be allowed.

We emphasize good sportmanship and good behavior .

Instruction for new player: The younger they start ,the more they will likely to get good at the game and enjoy chess later in life . Each person will learn a piece at a time with the least complex .We use simple made-up games along the way to reinforce the concept.

The complexity for learning chess : 

1.Learn each piece and value of pieces/Material (ROOK,QUEEN,PAWN...)

2.Learn how each piece move.

3.Learn chess notation/chess board squares.

4.Chess Rules(United States Chess Federation)

5.Moves/captures/special pawn rule/king rules/castling /checkmates/stalemate/draws

touch and move rule/chess clocks/chess manners/50 move rule/no mating material/

illegal moves/colours/set- up and 3 time repetition rule.

ChessTechniques:

We will offer techniques listed below:

Basic Tactics:

You will learn and talk about the foundation for tactics

Forks,skewers,removing the guard,pins and double-attacks. 

Opening-Learn chess opening and go over games.

Middle game-Learn the purpose of center control and tactics.

Endgame-It's important that a chess player know how to finish off a opponent .They will be familiar with other common mates also like back-rank mate, smothered mate ,2 rook mate  with king /queen and king mate  etc...

USCF Tournament Rules:

1.Leave the room as soon as your game ends .Post results on pairing sheets.

If you wish to talk,whisper,play blitz ,please leave the tournament area and go to the skittles room .

2.Start clock promptly when round begins .set analog clocks to start at 4:30

game ends at 5:00 pm .Time delay clocks should be set at 25 minutes with a 5 second delay setting.

3.If you have no clock buy one or borrow one.Directors do not furnish equipment .

4.Coaches,parents and spectators must leave the playing area once the round starts.

Note:

Tournament officials and chess players will be allow in playing area. 

Chess events will allow folks to watch but  NO talking or disrupting  chess players in the  tournament .

5.If your opponents is a 1/2  hour late as measured by your clock ,you may claim a win on time .Post a no show as 1F-OF on pairing sheet.

Players who forfeit are not paired for next round.(No refunds on any fees paid)

6.If a player has a question during the game,stop both clocks and raise your hand.A tournament official will be available to answer your questions.

7.Player must keep score until one player has 5 minutes left on the clock.After that point neither player has to keep score.

8.To claim a win on time your opponent's flag must have fallen.You must call the flag down yourself.

9.Cell phones are prohibited in the tournament room. If  your cell phone rings during the chess event you lose 10 minutes or half your remaining time,whichever is less.

Second offense  the same tournament you forfeit your game.  

10.In case of tie scores  USCF tie break rules will be used to determine prizes.

11.All United States Chess Federation rules will be in effect

examples: picking up clock ,touch and move,talking during event,late etc...
