Catoosa county was named after an American Indian chief named Catoosa? It was created from Whitfield and Walker counties and originally part of Cherokee county.One of the earliest areas to be settled in present Catoosa was the"city" of Dogwood or Dogwood Campground,(the future county seat of Ringgold)was at the intersection of three trade routes. The old Federal Highway from Savannah met up with the old road to Knoxville and Nashville right here. Hence the main street being Nashville street.
Ringgold is on Latitude 34.915N and Longitude is -85.109W Elevation is 778 feet above sea level. The town was named after Major Samuel Ringgold,the first American officer to die in the Mexican War.
