To Whom It May Concern:

We are called Semper Fi #1 United States Marine Corps Memorial honor detail. We are an all-volunteer unit that services deceased members of the military. It is our belief that every veteran who received an honorable discharge is entitled to a full military burial. Our members are made up of retired, reserve, and inactive Marines that include veterans from Korea, Vietnam, Gulf War. Afghanistan, and Iraq. We have been in existence since 1997. We are a totally nonprofit organization.

We have rendered honors for more than 3,700 veterans for a total of over 101750 hours of volunteer service. Although we generally render honors five days a month at the Riverside National Cemetery, we provide anywhere from fifteen to twenty services on that day. We also provide services during other days of the week when possible to include services for unclaimed “homeless” veterans. All of our members are volunteers and receive no compensation for the honors we provide. We would greatly appreciate any donation to assist us in buying weapons (for a 3 volley rifle salute), equipment, and to service our bus.

It is an honor to serve those that served us. We would appreciate any consideration you may give us.

The Memorial Honor Detail's mission is to render military honors for veterans who are to be interred at the Riverside National Cemetery. Staffed entirely by volunteers, the Memorial Honor Detail (MHD) provides all services FREE OF CHARGE. While having the support of the cemetery staff and management, the MHD is not a part of the cemetery or the Veteran's Administration and receives no financial support from either. We rely solely on donations for supplies and operational expenses.

Semper Fi#1 is team #15 of the Memorial Honor Detail and performs its services on the 2nd Friday, 3rd Monday, 2nd & 4th Thursdays (except Thanksgiving or other national holidays) and when a 5th Friday occurs. We are staffed by some 80 - 100 members who provide their own uniforms, transportation, and expenses
without any remuneration nor are any dues collected.
