Michigan Guided Salmon Fishing 2015
The michigan 2015 Salmon has just started on the little Manistee River and a few fish are starting to hang in the lakes and harbors (but only a few.) Once September hits, it's game on for early Kings. Streamer fishing and crank bait fishing in the lakes and lower rivers will heat up! September will bring good numbers of Kings into the Manistee River System. Salmon fishing will remain good till early October both on fly gear and light tackle.
Still a few prime open dates for Salmon
in September, and Fall Steelhead

Peak Salmon Season
Aug 20 - Oct 10, 2014
Early July starts the salmon season in Michigan with the first King Salmon or Chinooks entering the Little Manistee River. Early Aug brings good to great numbers of fish into the Little Manistee River, and good to great numbers of fish into the Betsie River. Late Aug brings good numbers of fish into the Pere Marquette and Big Manistee Rivers. September brings waves of Chinook into our local rivers into early Oct. Coho Salmon or Silver Salmon enter The Manistee, Betsie, Pere Marquette and Platte rivers. The Platte River near Honor, MI, gets a great run of Coho. These fish can be fished in the surf, and take much better than Chinooks.

Fishing for Late Summer Salmon in michigan
Michigan starts to see salmon in the rivers as soon as early July on the Little Manistee river. The Betsie river starts to see fishable numbers by early August. The Pere marquette river and Big Manistee river will see good numbers of fish late August. Walking in trips and floats in the drift boat are how we cover the smaller rivers. This can be some great Michigan Guided Salmon Fishing, less crowds, and the fish are hot!!
How we fish for Michigan Salmon
Early season we offer Michigan Guided Fishing for salmon on flies and light tackle. Spinners, crank baits, flashy streamers. We use drift boats and jet sleds to cover many Michigan rivers for salmon fishing.
What flies should I fish for Salmon
Early season Chinook Salmon will take flashy flies well such as flash clousers and bright Decievers.
As fish pool and hold for the spawn, the use of natural looking nymphs and eggs work better. Once the fish spawn it is hard to beat leech patterns, spey flies, and egg patterns.
Gear Fishing or Light Spin Tackle for Trout
The use of spinning gear can be very effective for Salmon. We offer guided fishing using the following techniques.
- Crank Baits
- Center pin Fishing
- Float Fishing
- Cast and retrieve
- Drift Fishing
Flies for Salmon
Flies for spring Steelhead can be described in four catagories:
-
Eggs - Flies that look or imitate fish eggs.
-
Nymphs - Local aquatic insects. (Mayflies, Stone Flies, Caddis)
-
Streamers - Bait fish imitations, Salmon fry, Leeches.
-
Attractors - Bright flies, flashy, can be hot colored patterns of the above mentioned.
