5 THINGS TO WATCH FOR THIS SUNDAY
“TRIPLE MAIN EVENT” HEADLINES THE SHOW
Three blockbuster matches are at the forefront of the advertising for this Sunday’s MWO Wrestling Live at The Bridge in Flint. The long-building feud between Alex Steele and Positive Promotions member Laura Phoenix will finally come to a head this Sunday when these two bitter rivals will finally have a high-profile one-on-one encounter. With two weeks before Christmas Clash, a victory is crucial for both Steele and Phoenix as they both could use the momentum of a big win as they both set their sights to Dec. 17 at the Richfield Road Church.
A very intriguing tag team match has been scheduled, pairing MWO Great Lakes champion Bam Grizzlee with MWO Television champion A. Wicked t battle their respective challengers in two weeks, Victor Cross and Cesar Ashur. The road to this blockbuster tag match can be traced back to Trick-or-Slam in October, but on Sunday these two unique tandems are going to attempt to give their opponents a preview of sorts in relation to the Great Lakes and TV title defenses that are slated for the Clash.
In Sunday’s main event, the odd pairing of Blackwell and THEE Cody Leedy will step into the ring in a big tag team bout against members of The Uprising, which include manager/founder Simon Paige, Brother Will Vendetta, and reigning MWO Champion Real Deal Michael Reaver. Ideally, it would be the Real Deal and Vendetta on The Uprising side, however Leedy has a match with Paige at Christmas Clash, leading many to assume he will join the champion in this main event. There is no love lost in this match as The Uprising has vowed to make Blackwell pay for his decision to leave the group by laying out Reaver after Trick-or-Slam. And Leedy has a lot of issues with Paige that was a major point in the rivalry between Leedy and Blackwell in the summer. The Uprising has an edge in unity, but if Paige is indeed Reaver’s partner, the odds-on-favorites would have to be Cody and Blackwell.
WHO IS THE INTERIM COMMISSIONER?
The MWO Board of Officials announced on November 29 that an interim MWO Commissioner will be named during the MWO Wrestling Live event this Sunday. It was decided that with the Division Challenge Series season beginning Sunday at The Bridge that an authority figure had to be put into place. A lot of speculation and rumors instantly started swirling on social media sites as fans and even MWO superstars are trying to find out who will be in charge of live event operations for the foreseeable future.
ALL-STAR SIX-MAN TAG MATCH TESTS PROMOTION’S UNITY
Positive Promotions has been under a lot of scrutiny in recent months, as rumors of dissention within the ranks of Mr. Positive’s stable ran rampant. But this Sunday, the eyes of Planet MWO will be fixated on this group as the three men of the Promotions—Fabulous Scotty Fraytown, JJ Hughes, and Roberto Cruz—will be in six-man tag team action as they battle the Dean Boys and the Darkstar Logan. This match will either make or break the Promotions’ momentum heading into Christmas Clash, where Fraytown and Hughes will meet the Tyler & Tyson Dean for the vacant MWO Tag Team championship. The combustible element in this match is Logan, who will be focused on Cruz in his first match since September. Cruz is looking to move up in the ratings any way he can, and if that means picking a fight with an extremely powerful Darkstar, he’ll do it.
THE DIVISION CHALLENGE SERIES SEASON BEGINS
Starting at this Sunday’s MWO Wrestling Live event, the Michigan Wrestling Organization’s Division Challenge Series begins, where points will be earned based on the outcomes of the matches, ranging from 10 points for a pinfall or submission victory to 1 point for a loss. So with the DCS, there is renewed interest and even more on the line for every match contested in the organization. The six-month season will eventually culminate with the Slam-a-Thon Tournament in June. But it all begins on Sunday.
MWO TO PAY RESPECTS TO ONE OF ITS GREATEST FANS
Long-time Michigan Wrestling Organization superstars and fans are mourning the passing of the MWO’s biggest supporters. Jerry Nikle, the spirited fan who was not shy to let the wrestlers know whether he liked them or not, passed away just before Thanksgiving. The “Old Man,” as he was referred to by Jason “the Basher” Clouse (often the recipient of a not-so-family-friendly tirade from Jerry), will be remembered at the beginning of the event with a 10-bell toll for his support of the MWO.
