Michigan Wrestling Organization CEO Jason “The Basher” Clouse made the announcement that many organization fans have waited a long time for—confirmation that the promotion would be returning to live events after a lengthy suspension of operations due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Clouse addressed the MWO roster, staff, and fans during a video that was released on the MWO Network and subsequentially shared on the company’s social media platforms. In it, the Basher announced that Fremont, Indiana would be the site of the first live MWO event since the filming of WrestleRama 26 in September 2020. The Fremont Middle School will host the 2021 Slam-a-Thon supercard on Saturday, June 26, featuring two championship matches and the annual single elimination tournament that will ultimately decide who will challenge the Michigan Wrestling Organization Champion at WrestleRama 27.
“Fremont, Indiana, you’re up first,” said the chief executive official in a statement that was the culmination of many days and weeks of bringing the show together, “(MWO) is coming back down to you for our first live event in man, many months.”
At Slam-a-Thon, two big title matches are scheduled to take place. Reigning MWO Champion Jack Teryn is set to defend his title against top-ranked challenger Roberto Cruz. Tyler Dean will be challenging Clouse for his MWO Television championship in the other title match. For both of the titleholders, this will be first their first respective title defenses since winning the championships at WrestleRama 26.
The centerpiece of the event, like in previous installments of Slam-a-Thon, will be the tournament. However, as Clouse explained, this year will mark an emotional milestone for the annual tournament. “Beginning this year, the tournament that will be part of Slam-a-Thon will now be referred to as the Pure Fury Jeff Clouse Memorial Tournament, or the PF Classic.” The move was made to further honor the Basher’s late brother, who passed away in April 2020. First round matches were announced, with a few names added to the brackets shocked organization fans. MWO Hall of Famers X-Convict and Jaysen Platinum were revealed as first-round opponents for the PF Classic. But a real surprise was the announcement that Cesar Ashur would be making his MWO return as the first-round opponent The Mighty Bojack.
Slam-a-Thon 2021 will be a free live event, thanks to the support of Eagle’s One Stop and the DQ Grill & Chill, who are the official sponsors of the event. While the admission is free for fans of all ages, concessions and merchandise will be available for sale. Proceeds from the concession stand (including hot dogs and various beverages) will benefit the FMS athletic department. Doors open at 5:00 PM, with a 6:00 PM bell time listed. The show will be filmed for a future special presentation on the MWO Network.
The annual tournament will now be known as The PF Classic--the Pure Fury Jeff Clouse Memorial Tournament
