Bobby, if Carl Rodriguez had something to say, he would say it himself, he is a real Charro. So don't lie. This weekend, I am going to be Alvarado, Texas, with the real Charros. If you bothered to pay attention to what is going on in Charreria, you would know that. You still did not say you give the girls complementary tickets for their families and not even a rose for the girls. When the winning team was announced, one of their children asked what they got, and the answer was nothing. They were not impressed. Also, I saw some Charros performing who do not do anything without getting paid. Why should the girls have to perform and then sell food to make money, when the men get paid. San Antonio gets paid $10,000.00 by the Fiesta Commission to put on this show,.They charged $15.00 per person at the gate and there was almost 2000 people there just on the last Sunday. That is between $20,000.00 and $30,000.00. Then there was the beer and soda sales, that was thousands of dollars more. That was just the second Sunday. With all that, the girls did not even get a rose. How cheep can you get.

Its not a free event. Other groups have events and charge at the door for even participants. I spoke to Carl, and he blushed about the comment you made. I had the pleasure of actually competing on the same team with him in the late 80's We are very proud of him. He currently is our treasurer. He also denies that any participants were paid. and that San Antonio Charros recieved money from Fiesta Commission to put this show on. He also said that all the escaramusa were not charged. As for plaques, we have a tradition of giving those out to people that have made a difference in the lives of others, and sometime to even our own memebers for the contributions that they have made to the organization through dedication and hard work. This year we gave one to the Rey Feo, And King Antonio, and to a member who has een with us for over fifty years. The escaramusa teams in San Antonio where all asked if they wanted a booth to help raise money for their group. One declined to operate one but wanted to participate, two declined participation all together. The teams that did have a booth faired well with their sales. They really liked the exposure, and the attention that was given to them. The association also brought in a someone to jusge them to prepare the girls for state. They actually had their own event which will be expanded next year. I'm sorry that you did not participate, and apologize that you did not witness the work and effort that was put in this particular venue. I have yet to receive one complaint from any participant. I was in charge of putting on this event, and I really care about charros and the charras. I am putting on another event this weekend. Would you consider being my guest so that you can help me better understand what you mean about pathetic, how to make any future events better after a thunderstorm? I really don't know of another local lienzo that can accomodate the public, much less another with running water in the restrooms. Please contact any federated team to get my contact information so that arragements can be made so you do not pay at the door.

This is where your absolutely wrong! I performed there sunday and so did my other escaramuza friends and none of them had to pay so I really don't know where your information is coming from to be honest! All of us are content with how things went so I really don't know who is complaining! San Antonio has always been welcoming to us all and we all made money from our booths!

None of the teams got complementary tickets and their families had to pay. Now you say the teams got something special when they did not have to pay to come make money for San Antonio. An association that claims to have class and who made thousands and thousands of dollars acts like they were doing the teams a favor by not charging escaramuzas to perform. Pathetic, that is what San Antonio is. That is why the lienzo and stands look so bad. Pathetic. One day maybe someone who cares about Charros, Charras and Charreada will get back in charge.

By the way Bobby, the families did not get in free. They had to pay. None of the teams got complementary tickets. San Antonio likes to act special, well the only thing special about them is that they are selfish. The only real Charro left there is Carl Rodriguez. The rest of the members are Charro Bancos, who just like to give each other plaques telling themselves other how important they are.

I guess Bobby thinks women belong in the kitchen. Not even a rose. If the men did not get paid they are stupid. I was told by a Charro the men were paid San Antonio makes thousands

No men got paid, San Antonio did not get paid. The girls had opportunity to use a booth to raise money and they did. Their families got in free. You have been given wrong info.

The girls were wonderful at San Antonio yesterday. Too bad they did not get any respect. I was told the men were paid to be there, but the girls did not get anything. No free tickets for their families or even a trinket. Not even a rose. The Fiesta Commission pays San Antonio for putting on the Charreada and then San Antonio makes money at the gate, beverages and concessions. The girls worked hard and they deserve some recognition

Catherine Helland from the Battle of Flowers Parade sent me n email, saying the Charros del Sur, won first place in the Cavalcade section of the Parade. She is sending me the ribbon. I guess the Charros del Sur are going to have to get someplace where they can keep awards and the Flag from Congressman Gallardo. Things keep getting better for the Charros in South Texas. It is hard work, but it is worth it.

We have been told that the police in and around Nevada Texas, where the State finals are being held are very strict about trailers and horse regulations, including coggins test. You might want to be prepared and make sure you have a copy of the test with you.

Good turn out at El Bajio yesterday. Two Charreadas and the Escaramuza Oguillo Mexicano (Mexican Pride). The girls were fantastic and the guys really worked hard. The State Finals are going to be great if all the Charros are as good as those in the Southern Zone. Had a special guest, US Congressman Pete Gallego (D TX) from Alpine. He grew up riding his grandfather's horses. He seemed to be impressed by how Charreada is so family involved. His son wanted to stay, but like most politicians, he only has a short time before his next commitment. We want to thank him for coming. He gave the Charros de Sur, a flag that had been flown over the Capital, something that will be a treasured symbol of how the USA, is accepting Charreada. The Charros de Sur, hope other politicians learn to understand the beauty of Charreada and how it is supportive of family values.

If the Charros have any guardian angels, they are Vern Kershner, President of the Jordan Valley Rodeo and Doug Whitsett, a State Senator and large Animal Vet in Oregon. It looks like they want to stage a floor fight against the anti horse roping bill. Both of them work with livestock and talk about how roping horses by their legs is a common practice in ranch and vet work. It is too bad some Charros don't understand this. In Nevada, the Charros are still going to surrender and let the anti horse roping bill pass. The two Republicans on the Committee were going to vote against the bill, so you only needed one Democrat. According to the Hispanic Caucus, they had that vote, so the bill should not have passed. It is still not obvious wither the Charros got played by the PRCA, or if some sort of backdoor deal was made to sacrifice the Charros in exchange for something not so obvious and personal. The fact is, the bill is going to pass and all the Charros got was a pat on the back and some vague promise. It is hard to win a floor fight, but if the Charros guardian angels lose, they did not wimp out and went down fighting.

I have had a number of comments or actually questions about the Oregon law, decimating Charreria there. That law says, you cannot rope a horse by the legs. It also says that the American Rodeo is a right protected by law. So you can still kill all the calves and steers you want in American Rodeo, but you cannot do piales, which to my knowledge has never hurt a horse. You also cannot do modified Mangana, where the horse is not dropped, which also has never hurt a horse. This just does not seem right to me. I guess it is OK since the Committee to Defend Charreria just withdrew its opposition to the Nevada Horse Tripping law, even though they had the votes to defeat it. You have to wonder what some people are thinking. What I think is “La soga no hace mangana sin la mano que la guia, que es la mano mexicano que forjo a la charreria” Jose Ma. Parga Limon
